My Love affair with Bougainvillea

I am obsessed with bougainvilleas. My Google photos are flooded with bougainvillea pictures, my pinterest boards have embroidery hoops inspirations of bougainvilleas and my watercolor paintings always have a shade of blushing fuchsia bougainvilleas in the background.

Why, you ask!

Let me take you back 30 years, I was a mere five year old and we were on a family trip to Jaipur, India. It was the month of February, nip in the air, with light jackets on. My parents took us to this beautiful Indian restaurant, and there bloomed the most beautiful thing I had ever laid my eyes on,

the brightest pink bougainvilleas.

It was a photo backdrop you had to make the most of, and my parents immediately did that. With an old Kodak film camera, came the photo of my dad side hugging my mom, both looking at each other longingly, while the magenta vista of bougainvillea framed their love strongly.

I love that photo. Growing up, it was my favourite photo of my parents. It was effortless love, the cosy winter kind, with the most gorgeous flowers.
